In the heart of the village of Oleggio Castello, overlooking Lake Maggiore, rises Castello Dal Pozzo — an authentic historic residence whose roots stretch back to the 10th century, when a Roman Castrum of the Fifth Legion once stood on these very hills.
Since then, the estate has passed through eras, dynasties, and transformations — all while preserving its noble soul.

Around the year 1000, the Visconti — a noble Milanese family — built the first medieval fortress, from which they launched their campaign to rule Milan in 1277.
Following a period of decline, the Visconti d’Aragona restored the remains of the castle in the 16th century, transforming it into an elegant noble residence.
In the 19th century, Marquis Claudio Dal Pozzo d’Annone, heir to the estate, commissioned British architect Richard Popwell Pullan to redesign the complex in the Gothic Revival style.
The result was a unique architectural masterpiece: towers, arches, frescoes, stained-glass windows, and English gardens made Castello Dal Pozzo one of Italy’s finest examples of Neo-Gothic architecture.

For over six generations, the Dal Pozzo Family has lived in and lovingly preserved the Castle.
Today, the resort is managed with passion by Aimone and Guendalina Dal Pozzo, modern heirs to the tradition, who lead this legacy of excellence in hospitality with a contemporary spirit — always in harmony with history.
Long before becoming a resort, the estate was the family home where marquises, artists, and distinguished guests were welcomed with the same care now reserved for international travellers.
Drawing rooms, kitchens, stables, and even the chapel were organised like a grand hotel ante litteram: with dedicated staff, court chefs, and carriages ready to escort guests through the rolling hills of the Lake District.
In short, hospitality has been in the Castle’s DNA long before any hotel license was ever issued.

In the 1980s and ’90s, the three Dal Pozzo brothers led the estate into the future, beginning the first phases of historic restoration.
With the next generation — Aimone and Guendalina — that vision expanded, giving rise to today’s five-star resort.
| 1997 | Restoration of common areas and opening as a private event venue (external catering). |
| 2006 | First hospitality license; 8 rooms in the Castle’s south wing refurbished and opened as a B&B / guesthouse. |
| 2010 | Launch of the 5★ hotel, fine-dining restaurant Le Fief, and the Cassiano III Conference Centre. From this point, all F&B and banqueting services are handled in-house. |
| 2016 | Restoration of the historic Stables: 8 new rooms and enhancement of a heritage building. |
| 2019 | Opening of the open-air wellness area: infinity pool and Folia Pool Bar. |
| 2021 | Dan Garden Lounge evolves from cocktail bar to “easy gourmet” bistro. |
| 2022 | Inauguration of the new Signature Suite in the Castle’s central wing. |

Following extensive restoration, Castello Dal Pozzo is now an internationally recognised five-star resort.
The historic Stables, the Visconti Palazzo, and the 24-hectare centuries-old park create a unique estate welcoming guests from all over the world — with historic suites, gourmet cuisine, exclusive events, and authentic experiences.

Among the many stories whispered by the Castle walls, one stands out — the legend of Barbara, daughter of nobleman Alberto Visconti, who in 1467 fell in love with Captain Matteo de Grandis.
Their love, forbidden and tragic, is said to still echo within the Castle, her spirit seen wandering silently in the tower that bears her name.

To welcome someone is to open your home.
For the Dal Pozzo Family, hospitality is an intimate and heartfelt gesture.
Every guest becomes part of a larger story — one of timeless beauty, where art, nature, and care come together to create an unforgettable experience.
