Lake Maggiore GETAWAY
A castle – what a dream it is to experience life within its walls, where
history and the charm of past centuries come to life, transporting us back
to the 10th century. The idea of such a place is especially appealing when one seeks
a break from the constant noise and busy streets and simply wishes to enjoy
the peace of nature. For those looking to escape, Italy offers a perfect destination.
Lake Maggiore is a haven for those seeking relaxation and explo-
ration. Its shores boast stunning landscapes, charming towns,
and Italian allure. From serene boat rides to historic villas and
lush gardens, adventure and tranquillity intertwine. L’Officiel
Monaco recommends Lake Maggiore, where Castello Dal Pozzo
offers refined comfort.
The Dal Pozzo family’s lineage traces to ancient Rome and
Aeneas, who fled Troy in 1200 BC. From him, two branches
emerged: one leading to Julius Caesar, the other to the Dal Pozzo
family, spreading across Italy. Today, brothers Oberto, Vittorio,
and Cassiano own the estate, and Aimone and Guendalina, Cas-
siano’s children, manage it. Their three French Bulldogs, Kona,
Piero, and Wilma, often entertain guests, providing a touch of
playful charm to their stay.
The Castello, a structure with a rich and layered past, has evolved
over the centuries. Originally built around the year 1000 as a
fortified structure, it underwent significant refurbishment in the

19th century under the direction of Claudio Dal Pozzo. This
transformation resulted in a unique architectural gem, considered
Italy’s only example of Arts and Crafts architecture. The design
of Castello Dal Pozzo is attributed to the same architects who
were involved in the planning of the iconic House of Parliament
in the United Kingdom. The Castello is situated on 24 hectares of
expansive land, a veritable haven of botanical interest, showcasing
diverse trees and plants. The grounds feature various species of
magnolias, majestic centuries-old plane trees, and more particu-
lar specimens such as the Araucaria.
Inside the Castello, the architecture serves as a reflection of
the period’s style, characterized by distinctive features such as
stained-glass windows, intricately designed stencils, bas-reliefs,
wooden walls with artistic detail, historical paintings the size of
a contemporary apartment and a collection of coats of arms and
statues representing various historical periods, offering glimpses
into the Castello’s past.
